Dream BIGGER is the first book I’ve published, even though I have written other books before. So I’m learning a lot from the challenges and delights along the way . This past week, for example, I discovered my first book reviews on Amazon.com. I’ve often bought books through Amazon, and read the reviews, but I never dreamed that one day I’d be reading a review of my own book there! There’s also a review on Amazon.co.uk – yes, that’s United Kingdom – so Dream BIGGER has made it over the ocean and beyond.
There have been challenges, of course. During my recent trip to Boston and Rhode Island, I wasn’t able to get any book signings set up at Barnes and Noble or Borders stores because there were still some formalities to be resolved. Now that I’m back in Canada, of course, some of those stores have given the green light to signings so it looks like I’ll be making some trips south of the border in December and January.
It’s also taken a couple of months to have Dream BIGGER listed online at Chapters. But I’m happy to say that it’s now available there. It’s not on shelves yet – that will apparently take more time as well as requests from eager readers (hint, hint!)
The biggest surprise for me has been the emergence of “book angels” in my life. At first, it was just me and my marketing professionals (Nicole, Ashley and Joel at Dunn Pellier Media and Janis and David at Assisting Authors Online – yay team!) working diligently away. They were busy making phone calls, sending emails, doing their best to book interviews, as well as promote the book through social media and create the Dream BIGGER Reinvention Challenge website. I was focused on preparing the material they needed, sending out books for review and media contacts and organizing the launch.
Just in the last week or two, however, all that has begun to change. As Dream BIGGER moves out into the world, it touches lives. People who read it are so inspired that they want to share the experience with others. Elizabeth Hopkins, co-host of The Rhode Show, was so excited about the book that she kept me after my interview to talk more about it. Glowing reviews are going up on blog sites across North America and Europe. And Dream BIGGER has sprouted legs – it’s wandering the world through Book Crossing. Then there are the wonderful individuals who are selling books just by talking to their friends and colleagues, connecting me with organizations to do motivational talks and workshops, and asking for office copies for their clinic waiting rooms.
It seems that Dream BIGGER has made quite a splash, and now the ripples are spreading wider and wider with the wondrous support of all these book angels. Boundless thanks!
