A couple of announcements before I continue our blogging series: Jacob’s Courage by Chuck Weinblatt is the latest book added to the Books We Love page. This is a wonderful love story set in the desperate background of the Holocaust. I hope someone will pick this book to review. Also please put up our I Am An Assisting Authors Online Book Reviewer banner on your site by April 1. Go to the link above and copy the code under the book cover on the right sidebar.
Here is the main post:
This is a given. People want to know that you notice their comments and react to them. I try to comment back as soon as I get the comment. Here is an excellent tip from Kathryn in her blog, Singing Through the Rain“An easy way to reply back is through email. A lot of people may know this trick, but for those of you who don’t it can be a life saver when you don’t have a lot of time to reply. If you don’t want people to have your email address, make a special email just for commenting and replying. Use your blog name, for example I could use: email@example.com”
4. When you get a comment in your email inbox, click reply and hopefully if they have done the same you will be able to reply to them, and others can respond to your comments this way as well.
5. Host a giveaway.
A great way to get some new followers is to give something away on your blog. Giveaway your book, book banner, book marks, or coupons for Smashwords. Whatever it is, it will get people to your blog. You can require people to link back to your post on their blog, or on facebook or twitter, and that will bring even more people. Google authors blogs in your genre and see what they do for giveaways. Maybe you can get a clever idea like Knitting lessons online for a crafts or knitting book stc. While you are at the author’s blog, comment on their blog that day. (Remember to add your signature including your website and Amazon links.) If you pick your genre or interest, you probably will have something interesting to add. That leads us to the next tip.
6. Find a new blog to comment on. Either google for other blogs that have similar interests to yours, or look through the comments on other people’s blogs and choose a commenter that stands out. This is another way to get out there and bring people and traffic back to your blog!
You want to join as many groups as you can. The more you join the more traffic you will bring back. A lot of websites have requirements in order to have your blog listed, so just remember to follow their rules. Look back at my Why You Should Use a Blog Directory post. You will find links that you can use.
8. Join groups, blog catalogs, and blog rolls.

The next blog will be about necessary sites for authors. Stay tuned!
